The upcoming Lok Sabha Elections 2024 in Delhi’s North East constituency are set to witness a gripping battle as the Congress names Kanhaiya Kumar as its candidate against BJP’s sitting MP Manoj Tiwari. The contest is marked by sharp rhetoric and contrasting ideologies, promising an intense electoral face-off.

Manoj Tiwari, known for his musical prowess before entering politics, wasted no time in criticizing Kanhaiya Kumar, referring to him as “irresponsible” and the leader of the “tukde-tukde gang.” Tiwari emphasized Kumar’s brief electoral stint and pledged to showcase the development strides made during his tenure. Tiwari’s comments echo a broader narrative about nationalistic sentiments and governance achievements.

Kanhaiya Kumar, a former JNUSU President, gained national attention in 2016 amidst allegations of anti-national slogans during a JNU campus event. His subsequent political journey led him to the Communist Party of India (CPI) Marxist and a bid for the Begusarai constituency in Bihar during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Now aligned with the Congress, Kumar’s candidature underscores a shift in Delhi’s political landscape.

The electoral battleground of North East Delhi isn’t without its recent history, marked by the tragic riots of February 2020 that claimed numerous lives and sparked nationwide debates. Against this backdrop, Kanhaiya Kumar’s entry into the fray brings forth discussions about representation, governance, and post-riot reconciliation efforts.

The contest in North East Delhi isn’t just between individuals but reflects the larger political dynamics in the national capital. The BJP, having secured all seven seats in 2019, faces a formidable challenge from the AAP-Congress alliance forming the INDIA bloc. With AAP contesting four seats and Congress three, the BJP’s hold in Delhi faces a vigorous test, making each constituency, especially North East Delhi, a focal point of national political discourse.
